Typing speed test
Measure your typing speed in words per minute with live WPM, accuracy and a 15/30/60-second timer.
How to use
Pick a test length — 15, 30 or 60 seconds — then just start typing the words shown. The timer begins the moment you press your first key, so there's no separate start button. Each character is checked as you type: correct letters turn solid, mistakes are highlighted in red, and a moving caret shows where you are.
Your words-per-minute (WPM) and accuracy update live while you type, and when the timer runs out you get a clean summary with your final WPM, accuracy and your best-ever score (saved locally in your browser). Hit Try again for a fresh set of words.
WPM is calculated the standard way — every five correct characters counts as one word — so your score is comparable with other typing tests. Everything runs locally, so it works offline and nothing you type is recorded or uploaded.
Examples
Use the 15-second test for a fast warm-up before writing or coding.
Run the 60-second test a few times and watch your average WPM climb as you practise.
Slow down slightly and aim for 98%+ accuracy — clean typing is often faster overall than racing and backspacing.
Frequently asked questions
How is WPM calculated?
Words per minute uses the standard formula: the number of correct characters divided by five, divided by the minutes elapsed. This makes your score comparable across typing tests.
What's a good typing speed?
The average is around 40 WPM. 60–70 WPM is solid, 80+ is fast, and professional typists often exceed 100 WPM. Accuracy matters as much as raw speed.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes, though typing tests are easiest on a physical keyboard. On a phone the on-screen keyboard will appear when you tap the passage.
Is my typing tracked?
No. The whole test runs in your browser — nothing you type is sent anywhere, and only your best WPM is stored locally on your device.
