Tip calculator
Calculate a tip and split the bill (and the tip) evenly across any number of people.
How to use
Enter the bill amount and choose a tip percentage — either tap one of the quick presets (10–25%) or type your own. If you're splitting the check, set the number of people and the calculator divides both the tip and the total evenly.
You'll see the tip amount, the grand total, and the per-person tip and total. Copy a clean summary or download it as a text file, and use Share to send a link that pre-fills the same bill and tip for a friend.
It all runs in your browser, so there's no waiting and no data sent anywhere — perfect for pulling out at the table on your phone, even with a spotty connection.
Examples
A $90 bill at 18% adds $16.20, for a $106.20 total.
That $106.20 total split between 4 people is $26.55 each.
Type any percentage — e.g. 22% on $54.30 — for exact control over the gratuity.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I tip?
In the US, 15–20% of the pre-tax total is customary for table service, with 18% a common default. Norms vary by country and service type, so adjust to taste.
Does it tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?
It tips on the bill amount you enter. If you prefer to tip pre-tax, enter the pre-tax subtotal as the bill.
Can it split the bill unevenly?
This tool splits evenly. For itemised, uneven splits (who ordered what), use the Bill splitter tool.
Is it free and private?
Yes — no ads to your data, no sign-up, and every calculation stays on your device.
